Who is responsible for the Safeguarding of Children?
It is everybody’s responsibility to be vigilant and listen to pupils when they are worried about issues regarding safeguarding. At Chapel St Leonard’s Primary School, all staff members receive safeguarding training and all staff are made aware of the Designated Safeguarding Leads.

At Chapel St Leonards Primary School, our contextualised safeguarding approach focuses on key local issues that directly affect our children and community — including County Lines, Water Safety, Online Safety, Domestic Abuse, and Stranger Danger. These areas have impacted some of our pupils personally and reflect wider concerns within our local area. By addressing them through our curriculum, assemblies, and pastoral support, we aim to equip every child with the knowledge, confidence, and strategies to stay safe both in and out of school.
Safeguarding through the Curriculum

At Chapel St Leonards Primary School, we take safeguarding extremely seriously and ensure it is at the heart of everything we do. We believe that keeping children safe is a shared responsibility and that education plays a vital role in empowering pupils to make safe, informed choices. To strengthen this, we regularly invite outside agencies and experts to work with our children — including the RNLI, local PCSOs and Police, the LCC Safeguarding Team, and the Fire Brigade. These valuable partnerships help our pupils to learn about real-life risks such as water safety, online safety, road awareness, fire safety, and healthy relationships, in an engaging and age-appropriate way. Through these experiences, we aim to give every child the knowledge, confidence, and resilience to stay safe both in school and in the wider community.
