The dedicated Primary PE and Sport Premium goes directly to primary school head teachers so that they can decide how best to use it to provide sporting activities for pupils.
Primary schools around England are using the premium to:
– Up-skill teachers to improve the quality of sport lessons
– Invest in quality coaching
– Provide more opportunities for pupils to take part in inter-school competitions
– Offer more after-school clubs
– Purchase better equipment
– Introduce new and unusual sports to encourage more children to enjoy sport
– Improve sport teaching for children with special educational needs
– Deliver holiday and weekend activities
– Help children build a healthier lifestyle

The PE and Sport Premium funding develop and add to the PE and sport activities that school already offers and help to build capacity and capability within the school to ensure that improvements made now will benefit pupils joining the school in future years.

There are 5 key indicators that schools should expect to see improvement across:
– the engagement of all pupils in regular physical activity – the Chief Medical Officer guidelines recommend that all children and young people aged 5 to 18 engage in at least 60 minutes of physical activity a day, of which 30 minutes should be in school.
– the profile of PE and sport is raised across the school as a tool for whole-school improvement.
– increased confidence, knowledge and skills of all staff in teaching PE and sport.
– broader experience of a range of sports and activities offered to all pupils.
– increased participation in competitive sport.
Sports Premium 2026-2027
The 2026–27 academic year marks a transition from the Primary PE and Sport Premium to the new PE and School Sport Partnerships Network. Consequently, schools have received partial funding for this transition year. Chapel St Leonards Primary School remains committed to providing a high-quality PE curriculum and a wide range of sporting opportunities, ensuring the available funding is used strategically to maximise outcomes for all pupils.
